The North Coast 500

The North Coast 500

The North Coast 500 is a route that shows the true rugged and captivating beauty of Scotland. You can drive it, cycle it, whether pedal or motor or if you're a real hike monster you can walk it.

Our poster is at first sight a record of the route, beginning and ending in Inverness and taking in Sutherland, Caithness and Ross & Cromarty. 516 miles of tarmac, but in terms of creating a record this poster also sets out to show just what beauty lies just off the beaten track.

The route was devised in 2015 by North Highland Tourism to encourage people to visit. There have been criticisms that the route has encouraged people simply to pay flying visits as they scorch around the route but this poster is purposely designed to highlight reasons to dwell or, much like The South West Coast Walk, just do parts, soak up the beauty and hospitality and then return for another segment. Or if your heart's set on the loop in one, don't rush, a holiday of several nights stay and visits will show you the real appeal of this route.

The main route is shown on our poster as a dark grey circle and within that, any locations directly on the route are indicated by a circle within it. Places of interest are pinned and set in italic type.

Each point of interest comes within a category such as mountains and castles and each coloured accordingly.

The North Coast 500 poster makes a great record of your visit whether you've been on the beaten track or off it and if you're planning to do the 500 then hopefully this will inspire you to find out about many of the beautiful sights of Scotland's Highland region.
